Top questions asked by people about our sober living homes.
When did we start the first sober living home?
The first sober living home was the home in Westminster and it started taking in people over thirty two years ago. The first person was from Arizona. The person did not have a job and was very poor at the time. With a little help from another person they picked up some used clothes from a thrift store for $3.00. With in a day they found a job working for Toyota. They worked for Toyota for years until they retired. Each year we add more to what we do. Every few years we have added another home to our work. The first rental home was opened over forty years ago. We still have the original tenant after forty years.
Are there many success stories?
Yes there are many sober living home success stories. Many of the sober living home residents have gone on to be very successful. Many parents have been reunited with their children. Many have moved on and are working in other businesses that help other people. Over the years there have been hundreds of success stories for the men, women, couples, parents and the children that live and have lived in the homes.
How do we do it?
A team of volunteers working together make it work. Many of our volunteers are previous residents that had lost everything. Some had given up hope that anything would ever change for the better in their lives. Some of the people had lost everything. Some were battered, some were homeless, some had lost their children and some had lost contact with their family and real friends. By living in one of the homes, it permitted them to change their lives for the better and they did!
What is included for people living in the home?
All the sober living homes have free utilities, free home phones, free high-speed wi-fi, free high-speed internet, free use of high-speed Dell computers, free cable with HBO, and lots of free food. Everyone living in the home has full kitchen, living room, yard and BBQ privileges. All the homes and rooms are fully furnished. Some of the homes have swimming pools and spa. Some of the homes have wonderful views. All the homes have in the home washer and dryers. All the homes are with in a few miles of California beaches and shopping centers.
Who are we?
We are all volunteers that have lived or now live in one of the homes. We are a group of compassionate, hard-working volunteers that work together to help other people so they may also have a chance to put their lives back together.
How do the homes get their names?
Each homes is named after someone that had lost almost everything. After moving into one of the homes they worked very hard to get back on their feet. In each home the first person to get back on their feet was selected for the home to be named after.
